Get To Know: Orjan Nilsen

When you think of Orjan Nilsen, you think of his delightful personality, his huge drive for everything music and his inexhaustible energy. We thought it was about time to catch up with the Norwegian DJ/producer to talk about everything that’s typically him.

1. What’s the first thing you did this morning?
I showered. It’s kind of the usual thing I do as soon as I wake up, as I don’t function otherwise.

2. How do you get ready to start your day?

I take a shower, make a coffee, sit down, check some e-mails and catch up on socials. It takes time to get into my persona.

3. So, coffee or tea?

Coffee all the way.

4. Are you a morning or a night person?

Depends on the season, but I'm mostly a night person, I have a terrible sleeping schedule, especially when touring. Except when I have my daughter at home. I actually become a morning person then, because I love cooking her breakfast. And I love cooking overall.

5. What is something you do daily?

Drinking copious amounts of coffee, taking my allergy medicine because I'd suffer a death by sneeze-sneeze otherwise (Futurama fans rejoice!), and finding a new recipe from the interwebz. Most of the times I'd cook it too!

6. What do you do to relax?

Two things. I watch movies and TV shows with my daughter or I game; I currently play Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us.

7. What small thing made you smile today?

I have this little bird on my balcony that seems to be very comfortable with me being around. He was peeking out of my window this morning and I saw him do that, which definitely made me smile. He does that every day too. He's almost my pet now, wouldn't leave.

8. What’s your favorite track to boost your mood?

Anything from the 2000 dance list on Spotify. That’s my good mood go-to. Also Scooter. Scooter make me happy.

9. What’s your guilty pleasure?

The Backstreet Boys and tiny bits of Ariana Grande in the morning. I am man enough to admit to that.

10. What was your first gig abroad?

It was ‘Revolution of Love’ in Poznan, Poland 2007. Check it out here.

11. What’s your favorite production trick?

Layering sounds to make it sound like one very massive sound (kicks, claps, etc). Absolutely love that!

12. What was your first big hit?

That was ‘La Guitarra’. It was even played on the radio!

13. Anything else you’d like to share?

I'd love to have both dogs and cats, but I am so very much allergic to both (and many other animals). Sometimes I do suffer through it to get some cuddles.
