Company
Dutch record label Armada Music doesn’t really need an introduction. But to be sure you know where they come from and where this diverse and steady growing record company is heading for in the future, here’s a few facts that deserve your attention.
Armada Music was founded in 2003 by Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis, of which the first 2 letters of their names form nothing less than ‘Armada’. The company celebrates its ten year anniversary in 2013 and has brought a range of quality releases over the past years, which resulted in the ‘Best Global Dance Label’ title five years in a row, as awarded by the International Dance Music Awards of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. The Amsterdam-based label works with and manages some of the biggest names in dance music, like Markus Schulz, Paul Oakenfold, Aly & Fila, Dash Berlin, Paul van Dyk, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Mischa Daniels, Chicane, Gabriel & Dresden and of course Armin himself. Working together with the Armada team, these artists and their individual labels – Coldharbour Recordings, Perfecto Records, AVA Recordings, Pilot 6, Electronic Elements, Armind, Subculture and A State Of Trance are just a selection of the over 30 sub labels now residing under Armada – have built a solid reputation in the global dance music scene. But it doesn’t stop there.
Armada also hosts successful events worldwide, therewith entering the areas of management and events. Its Armada Nights stretch out from Buenos Aires, London and Amsterdam to Rome, Jakarta, New York and Mexico City.
In 2011, Armada Music kicked off a new management division. Armada Music Management focuses on long-term artist career strategies and developing artist brands in today’s digital world.
Ultimately Managing Director and co-owner Maykel Piron puts it best: “It’s mainly important to be able to release high quality dance music. That basically means we should be able to release every genre of track. No matter if it’s trance or house; if we love it, we have the opportunity to release it.”
