Re*Brand presents Protoculture: The Story So Far

January 06, 2012
Praised for his productions and remixes, makes South-African producer Protoculture one of the most up and coming names of the past 2 years. In 2012, his home label Re*Brand puts him in the spotlights, with an all-Protoculture pack! Enjoy 16 of his outstanding remixes and tracks, as the ultimate collection of this promising talent.

When you hear South African Native Protoculture’s production you know it right away, that driving bass and drums impeccably placed within a sea of pads and emotion. My first experience with Protocuture’s music was a track called “Naked”, a single from his summer 2010 album “Love Technology”. Immediately i hit him up on facebook proclaiming that this was the sound i could not find in the records that were around at the time. The driving yet soft sound, the atmosphere and emotion. It was that chunky, soaring, melodic rollercoaster of music that i’ve always been into. It wasn’t long before he was helping me with my mixdowns and next thing you know we’re collaborating on remixes. Signing an artist like this (to re*brand) is probably the most rewarding feeling about owning a record label.

After over a year of very consistent output from his studio, both remixes and originals, I asked him if he would like to compile this collection into one seamless ride. Lucky for us he said yes. While he may have a specific style this is far from 15 tracks of the same sound. With some vocal remixes, some full on instrumental productions and even a track of mine on there (that yes, he helped mixdown), plus some other artists interpretations of his melodies (Alex M.O.R.P.H, Criss Ortega and Nhato) this Mix fully encompasses why Protoculture is on the radar of every progressive and trance DJ on the planet right now.

Before you know it this prolific producer will have made another cd’s worth of music so take some time to enjoy his last 18 months in “the story so far”
