10 Essential Armada summer hits

August 24, 2018
There’s nothing like summer. The warm glow of the sun. The washing waves. The huge number of colossal festivals and epic beach parties. It’s everything you wanted and more, but there’s just a teeny tiny problem: it’s only here three months a year.

Luckily, there are many songs that make you feel like summer has only just begun. So we’ve listed ten of our best summer songs of 2018 in no particular order to help you keep the winter cold at bay until summer arrives again. Check out our Top 10 selection below or head over to our #WeArmada playlist on Spotify for the full list, updated weekly.

Armin van Buuren – Blah Blah Blah
You didn’t think “summer songs” only meant gentle guitar plucks and downtempo vibes, did you? Armin van Buuren’s ‘Blah Blah Blah’ isn’t anything like that at all, but that didn’t stop it from becoming a frequent fixture in mainstage live sets at summer festivals across the globe. It’s gimmicky, fun and just the shot of adrenaline you need to help you transition from chilling at beach side to going wild at the club on a warm summer night.

Mokita – Love Alone
For many people, summer is also the season of love. Just picture yourself sitting in the sand at beachside with your loved one, watching the sun set. Pretty darn romantic, right? So of course, you’ve got to have a love song as one of your summer anthems. American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mokita took it upon himself to provide you with just that. Want some summer romance? ‘Love Alone’ is the way to go.

Lost Frequencies feat. James Blunt – Melody
Considering the slew of summer hits under his belt, it’s no wonder at all Belgian superstar Lost Frequencies made the list. His link-up with world-renowned singer-songwriter James Blunt is just what you expected: smooth guitar tones, soft beats and a set of irresistible vibes that has “summer” written all over it.

Phats & Small – Turn Around (Hey, What’s Wrong With You) [Youngr bootleg]
Summers are vibrant, full of energy and just what you need when you’re a bit under the weather and need someone – or something – to lift you up. And that’s exactly why Youngr’s rambunctious bootleg of Phats & Small’s 1999 smash hit is one of our best summer tunes of the year. As infectious to watch and listen to as the viral video of his ‘Sweet Disposition’ bootleg, this song give you the means to keep going all summer long.

Sultan + Shepard – I Got 5 On It
Canadian Grammy nominees Sultan + Shepard have been experimenting with many sounds and styles over the past few years and ‘I Got 5 On It’ shows their peerless versatility in many ways. The song is chock-full of delicious grooves and amazing chill vibes, and draws inspiration from American hip-hop duo Luniz’s 1996 hit song for the lyrics to seal the deal. Summer, here we come!

Cedric Gervais – Do It Tonight
Already known for churning out insanely catchy vibes on a regular basis, Cedric Gervais pulled out all the stops for this summer hit. The Miami-based DJ, producer and label owner took the vocals of SOS Band’s 1980 classic, added his own sound brand to the equation and turned ‘Do It Tonight’ into a song able to bring the summer magic anywhere, even in the off-season.

Andrew Rayel & Garibay feat. Jake Torrey – Last Summer
Trance titan Andrew Rayel isn’t often associated with summer-flavored singles, but he sure made his journey into summer-smash territory count. Together with super producer Fernando Garibay and singer-songwriter Jake Torrey, the Moldovan, modern-day Mozart delivers a pop-scented song that reminds every one of those precious moments from ‘Last Summer’.

Loud Luxury feat. brando – Body
Even if you haven’t been to any beach parties in the past few months, you can’t be surprised this one made the list. Having grown from a national Springbreak anthem in the U.S. into a global summer smash, this song from emerging Canadian duo Loud Luxury could very well be THE summer hit of 2018. They’re about to drop its follow-up single so you might want to keep an eye on these guys. In the meantime, feel free to smack the hell out of your repeat button for ‘Body’.

ATFC & David Penn – Hipcats
As you leave the beach to head into town for a wonderful, summer-inspired night out, you need some super-duper grooves to keep the party going, right? That’s where ATFC & David Penn’s ‘Hipcats’ comes in. Its infectious rhythms seem custom-made to get you in the mood, so why don’t you surrender yourself to the vibes and dive in wholeheartedly? The warm sun and cool breeze will help you sober up the morning after anyway.

Kav Verhouzer & Sjaak – Stap Voor Stap
Already making waves here in the Netherlands, Kav Verhouzer & Sjaak’s ‘Stap Voor Stap’ isn’t your regular summer song. Instead, this one is fresh, funky, flirtatious and even a bit nuts on occasion. And what’s a list of summer hits without one that makes you dance and laugh at the same time? High time for you to get clued up on this Dutch mega hit, because it will make you run to the dance floor like a maniac.
