Matt Lange on ‘So Cliché’!

January 12th, 2014

Hey Matt! What’s up? Ready for the big release?
Matt: ”Hey there.  Yeah definitely, it’s nice for a change of pace to release with Armada once again.”

So, let’s get to it. ‘So Cliché’. What’s so cliché about it? To us it’s pretty much fantastic.
Matt: “Haha, well the guitar part was originally based around a line cliche, which is a musical term used to explain a line of notes down a chromatic scale.  I thought I’d be a bit cheeky with the title and base it around that.”

It’s very, very deep. You really do love the deep stuff huh?
Matt: ”I’ve always been drawn to darker and deeper forms of music.  It’s not to say that I don’t enjoy happier music from time to time. I do, but it’s not nearly as natural for me to write as the more moody realm that I prefer to live in.”

The guitar part was done all live, by you. Where else do you find such originality today?! We mean, did it take you long or was it pure improvisation?
Matt: ”I’ve been playing guitar for around 15 years at this point, so it’s fairly second nature to me.  My best ideas usually come pretty quickly. I find that when I start to over think things, I never end up being as satisfied with them. Everything tends to start off as improvisation for me, but of course once I have a theme I like, I record it as quickly as possible and move on.”

It’s not the first time we’ve had the honor of releasing your work on Electronic Elements. Will there be more deep jewels like ‘So Cliché’ coming our way?
Matt: ”Indeed it’s not the first, and I’m sure not the last either.”

A good 2014 resolution, perhaps?
Matt Lange: ”To crash a funeral.”

‘So Cliché’ is set for release on January 20th. Check out the Armada TV preview:
