Paul van Dyk embraces change

Paul van Dyk embraces change

December 22nd, 2011

If anyone knows about the wind of change, it’s Paul van Dyk. As one of the pioneers in dance music, he has embraced the flow of music, constantly changing, diversifying and evolving. It takes an open-minded person to withstand the pitfalls of time. With the 6th album of the German producer/DJ, ‘EVOLUTION’, he shows exactly what his music is all about. With his VONYC Sessions 2011 year’s overview compilation just released, we hooked up with Paul to talk about the near future. What will 2012 look like for Paul van Dyk?

Hey Paul, it’s been a while since we last spoke! How are you doing and what’s happening right now?
Paul:”I’m fine, thanks! 2011 has been a great year for electronic music and I’ve just released VONYC Sessions 2011, so it’s all good! You’ll find the best and most popular tunes from the VONYC Sessions radio show of the past 12 months on there.”

It’s also a bit of a sneak peak into 2012. What does 2012 have in store for Paul van Dyk fans?
Paul:”It’s all the release of my new album, called ‘EVOLUTION’. It’s gonna be filled with new music and surprises, and will be out in March.”

Of course there’s the EVOLUTION album ahead! What can you reveal about this one so far?
Paul:”It’s an evolution of myself, about the music I make, about electronic music in general. I managed to actually work with some fantastic collaborators, like Adam Young from Owl City, Arty and many, many more.”

EVOLUTION sounds like there’s a big change going on in your music. Will your sound be more diverse than ever, or does EVOLUTION stand for something else?
Paul:”Well, evolution is a constant process of changes, so it’s not something that’s drastically different. The thing is that I take electronic music as a whole thing and this is what I’ve always done. So you find something that people probably call drum n bass all the way to what they call ‘trancy’ or electro or house. It’s electronic music.”

What was the VANDIT Night in Berlin last Saturday like? Will there be more of those in 2012?
Paul:”The Saturday night was absolutely phenomenal. It was a great show. It’s amazing to see how many people from all over the world came together and celebrate this event with us so I’m really thankful for that and all the support.”

2012 is shaping up to be a promising year for you. What’s your new year’s resolution?
Paul:”I try to be slightly more organized and therefore maybe have a slightly more relaxed 2012 than 2011 was.”
