A year bursting with highlights, from the 500th episode of his A State of Trance radioshow, to the release of his fourth artist album, ‘Mirage’. Dutchman Armin van Buuren is living out the musical career that some people can only dream of. Never before, has a DJ been voted number one in the DJ Mag Top 100 this often. But in 2010, the charismatic DJ and producer became the first DJ in history to become the most popular DJ in the world, for the fourth year running.

Every week, Armin locks himself into his studio or hotel room to record and mix a new episode of his beloved A State of Trance. 15 million listeners eagerly await his personal selection of quality progressive and trance, served in a special two hour mix. In April 2010, the show reached its 500th episode, and therefore 10th birthday. Armin invited everyone to join the celebration, and so he organized 5 events on 5 different continents, during 5 weeks. Arguably the biggest trance celebration ever, ASOT 500 events took place in Johannesburg, Miami, Buenos Aires, Den Bosch and Sydney. All events were live broadcast, and united ten-thousands of music lovers from all across the globe.

But that wasn’t all. Next to countless gigs worldwide, Armin also spend hours and days inside his studio. Not only to compile and mix his new A State of Trance 2011 compilation, but also to finalize his new album, ‘Mirage’. Including collabs with BT, Ferry Corsten, Winter Kills and vocalists Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Nadia Ali, Laura V, Christian Burns and Adam Young, inspired and influences by many different types of music, made ‘Mirage’ an album more diverse than any other Armin album before. Following the release of the album, was the new Armin Only show: ‘Armin Only – Mirage’. With shows in Bratislava, Utrecht, Kiev, Buenos Aires, Beirut, Poznan, Melbourne, Moscow and more, admirers of the album got to enjoy a stunning show, with Armin doing a special 9 hour set, accompanied by live performances of the vocalists, dancers and many indulging visual elements.

Armin has just announced to be recording a new Universal Religion compilation at his resident night in Space, Ibiza this summer, as well as new Armin Only shows to come after summer. With another busy year ahead, on both personal and musical grounds, Armin van Buuren still manages to stay on the very top.
