Man alive, if loving house music is wrong Matt Meler don’t wanna be right.
From the moment that first pair of Ones and Twos dropped onto his table in January 2003, Matt made no apologies about digging through crates for jams by men like Miguel Migs, Joey Youngman, Inland Knights, Masters At Work, Dimitri From Paris, Jay-J, JT Donaldson, Mark Farina, Greenskeepers, Chuck Love and Joey Negro. Disco! Groove! And, all that house that it spawned! Yeah, all that good stuff. These are the sounds that inflated his first club set, in late 2003 (yup, it only took a few months), and that sound has since grown to encompass the most prime cuts from nu-disco, funk, disco, downtempo & house genres.
You don’t hold down a six-year residency in your city’s most exclusive room (King Street Hotel’s Supperclub, thanks) unless you’re doing something very, very right. And Matt certainly is. Three years of that residency was spent dabbling in production at home, but the last 18 months have seen a love affair with audio programs and hardware become obsession. While most obsessions ain’t great, Matt’s vice has proven fruitful.
How? A string of top notch releases over the past 12 months on
5 high quality labels, from James Curd’s G-Swing, Greenhouse Records, Random Soul Recordings, Mullet Records & Discopolis. Plus a track featured on Hed Kandi’s ‘Beach House’ compilation. Matt has been mixing it with the best across the charts on web stores such as Beatport, Traxsource, Stompy & Juno.
Following Matt’s release in early 2013 on Random Soul Recording of “Give It Up” which did some serious damage on the Traxsource & Beatport charts, is his release on UK label ‘Mullet Records’ with the Single “Got Me”. It features the lush vocals of Natalie Conway and has a stella remix package from Dublin Aunts, Elijah Collins, Sare Havlicek & Casio Social Club that accompany Matt’s boogie drenched Original Mix. Some serious heavy weights in the game like Tensnake, Mark Knight & Graeme Park showed support on the record. Matt’s most anticipated release is due out on both vinyl & digital at the end of August 2013 on the infamous Dikso Records in Berlin. Keep your eyes peeled for this one.
When he’s not in the studio, Matt spends his time DJing at places like Goldfish Kings Cross, the SHE (Soulful House Experience) parties, Opera Bar in Sydney or King Street Hotel in Newcastle. Matt has played alongside some huge names like Miguel Migs, Jay-J, Dimitri From Paris, Joey Negro Bag Raiders, Flight Facilities, Canyons, Random Soul, Nicc Johnson, Fred Everything and James Curd. He couldn’t disappoint if he tried.
So, where’s north from here?
