Gaia
In 2000, a new moniker of Armin van Buuren arose: Gaia. Inspired by Greek mythology, in which ‘gaia’ means ‘mother earth’, Armin named the first Gaia track ‘4 Elements’. Earth, water, sky and fire were represented in this legendary trance track, which grew out to a true classic and therefore an essential piece of music in trance’s history.
It’s not until 9 years and a generation of trance lovers later, that the next Gaia track sees the light. ‘Tuvan’, released in the summer of 2009, is one of the biggest tracks of that year, rocking the Ibiza crowds where it is premiered during the recording of Armin’s ‘Universal Religion Chapter 4’, as well as the global dance society. Gaia is back, and here to stay.
In between producing his fourth artist album, ‘Mirage’, Armin also takes time to create a follow-up, ‘Aisha’. An anthem of its own kind, ‘Aisha’ gets chosen to be the official theme to the 2010 edition of SAIL, a 5 day maritime event in Holland.
In 2011, Armin is facing the 500th episode and 10th birthday of his beloved A State of Trance radio show. A State of Trance 500, celebrated with 5 events on 5 different continents and more than 60 DJ’s on the line-up, is in need of an official anthem. ‘Status Excessus D’, another brilliant Gaia production, is the chosen track to fulfil this legacy.
The future will surely hold more Gaia productions, as well as releases under Armin van Buuren’s own name.
